Composition V

Johnny Friedlaender (1912-1992),  French-German,

Signed and numbered "Epreuve d'Artiste" - EA.

Johnny Friedlaender was a leading German/French 20th-century artist, whose works have been exhibited around the world and sell regularly at auction.  Friedlaender was born in Prussia and came of age before the Second World War.  After surviving internment in German concentration camps, he made his home in Paris after the war. Friendlaender is best known as a pioneer of the aquatint printmaking method and was an important teacher and influence for artists working in the second half of the twentieth century.

While Friendlander's works are typically resolutely abstract, they often feature natural or cosmological themes -  "Composition V"  is one such example.

Provenance : acquired at auction by Bohaus Art.
