Marcel Bellerive, longtime member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, first became known for his abstract etching and prints. In the 1970's his work began to take a turn towards the figurative with three-dimensional, mixed media pieces featuring everyday objects. "Coin de Cuisine" is a classic example of this style, exhibiting a fierce rejection of abstraction in favour of the textures and images of the everyday. This piece is a tactile tease, urging the viewer to reach forward and feel the wire and the creases of the paper bag.
Bellerive's work is held by private and institutional collections and museums, including the Contemporary Art Museum of Montreal.
