Grape Flavor (1981)

Walasse Ting (1929 - 2010),  Chinese-American

Lithograph on archival paper, signed in pencil and numbered 180/200.  Slight tear (~5mm) on lower right edge, invisible beneath matting.

Raised in Shanghai,  Walasse Ting, a self-taught artist, left China in 1949 for Paris where he worked with artists such as Karel Appel and Pierre Alechinsky - members of the avant-garde art collective COBRA.  Ting moved to New York in 1958 and was profoundly influenced by the work and friendship of Sam Francis among other abstract expressionists.  Bohaus Art notes that long before social media made such images ubiquitous,  Ting was known for his paintings of nude women and cats.  His work is held in prestigious collections around the world and appears regularly at auction.

Provenance : acquired at auction by Bohaus Art.
