Simon Tookoome (Canadian, 1934-2010)
Silkscreen on paper, signed and titled in syllabics and numbered 44 of 90. Unframed
Simon Tookoome was born at Chantrey Inlet and grew up learning the traditional lifestyle and beliefs of the Utkusiksalingmiut, a primarily inland Inuit community. With most of the Utkusiksalingmiut people, he moved south to the community of Baker Lake in the 1960s. There, he was a founding member of the Sanavik Co-op which initially focused on the production of unique prints, carvings and others arts and crafts.
Tookoome's works display a distinctive style that has made them among the most recognizable examples of contemporary Inuit art. His work appears regularly at auction.
