Inukai is the son of Kyohei Inukai (the Elder), a Japanese-American artist prominent in the early part of the twentieth century until the attack on Pearl Harbour and anti-Japanese sentiment curtailed his career. Inukai (son) was educated at the Art Institute of Chicago and became a versatile artist working in oils, silkscreen prints and sculptures. He is associated with both the Pop Art and Abstract Art movements. He was also known to be interested in construction techniques and was himself an inventor. Those interests are apparent in this geometric minimalist work "Under the Sun".
