Alexander Calder (1898-1976), American
Original color lithograph from the pages of Derrière Le Miroire n° 156, published in 1971. Framed.
This lithograph is taken from Derrière le Miroir ("DLM"). DLM is a French art magazine created by the famous Maeght art gallery in Paris. The magazine was created in October 1946 (n°1) and published without interruption until 1982 (n°253). Its original articles and illustrations (mainly original color lithographs by the gallery artists) were famous at the time and many editions have become rare collectors' items.
Alexander Calder was an American artist best known for his monumental sculptures made from steel girders as well as his exquisitely balanced mobiles. He was also a recognized master of two-dimensional abstraction depicting basic geometric shapes in vibrant primary colors. Duyring his lifetime, his work was honoured by solo exhibitions by the world's most important art museums. His two-dimensional work appears regularly at auction.
Provenance : acquired at auction by Bohaus Art.
